Show and Tell Lead By Marion Endt

About

DATE: 3rd OCTOBER TIME: 6: 30 - 8:00 LOCATION: Gazelli Art House 39 Dover Street London W1S 4NN For Gazelli Art House's next event we ask you to Show and Tell. Break free from common frameworks of categorization and allow your heart to express your love of a thing. We wish to tear away from the restrictions of collective meaning and examine what is closest to us and why. Show and Tell at school was an opportunity to not only show off your favorite thing but also give a view into your own life and way of thinking. What you are can be shown in the things you have. What you hold dear. What you can't live without. Dr Marion Endt specializes in the cabinet of curiosities lecturing on the subject of museums, collections and the afterlife of objects at Manchester University. Visitors will be invited to contribute the story of their object and explain its meaning. She will talk on the subject and lead the conversation helping to decipher the complex connections we have to these things by explaining the mind of the collector and methods of categorization. ‘Collecting' is a ubiquitous human activity, spanning all ages and all kinds of societies. Studying it can reveal an extraordinary range of connections between the world of ‘things' and the human world of ideas, values and meanings. Our current window project at Gazelli Art House is Henry Krokatsis's work Leaded Light. For this Henry spent 2 years collecting pieces of glass which where then cut and assembled in a pattern that resembles an all-encompassing sanctuary. In light of Henry's work we are holding an event that examines the connection we have to objects. Visitors are asked to bring objects that are meaningful to them and share its story, showing how we connect with things and what an object becomes beyond its original purpose. Through this we will see how objects have lives of their own and the different ways in which meaning can manifest itself. The first museums started with individuals collections, objects that they found value in either through interest, rarity or historical significance. In this spirit Gazelli Art House invites you to explore meaning in a strange new form and challenge the common perceptions of value and classification. To RSVP email rsvp@gazelliarthouse.com
