About

Celebrating the upcoming release of his new book of work, Global Model Village, street artist Slinkachu is launching #SlinkachuGlobal, a worldwide social media competition that begins with a one-off open workshop in association with East London's cinema and arts venue Rich Mix. Both the Global and London phases will challenge Slinkachu's fans to create their own works inspired by the artist's theme of ‘small people in a big world', offering two people the chance to win a signed copy of the new book with an enclosed print of Slinkachu's work. Taking place on Sunday September 23rd and hosted by Slinkachu himself, the #SlinkachuLondon workshop will offer members of the public the chance to play a part in launching the global collaboration from the artist's home city. Having tried their hand at creating their own works under the supervision of Slinkachu and members of East London craft and design collective Craft Guerrilla, attendees will then take their works onto the streets of East London to Twitpic their creations in situ. The workshop will end with a drinks reception, at which the artist's favourite picture of the day will be rewarded with a signed, numbered copy of his new book with a print enclosed. Slinkachu says, "I am really interested to see the results. I want people to take inspiration from my work, not just copy it. They can use whatever materials they want, coupled with their own creativity to explore how they themselves feel about life in their city - wherever they are around the world." Following the event, fans worldwide will be given the chance to get involved by sending their own images over Twitter with the hashtag #SlinkachuGlobal or posting them to Slinkachu's Facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/pages/Slinkachu/172247876151157 for the chance to win a second signed, numbered copy of the book with enclosed print, plus other prizes. Global Model Village collects together the international works of Slinkachu, the London-based artist who as part of his 'Little People Project' has been abandoning tiny model people on the mean streets of the world since 2006. Documented through photography, these little dramas of hope and tragedy, loneliness and humour somehow get to the heart of what it means to be human, to be alone among millions of other people, all experiencing the particular melancholy and magic of life in the big city. Published on September 29th the release coincides with the Slinkachu's third London solo exhibition, which runs at the Andipa Gallery in Knightsbridge from 27th September — 27th October before transferring to New York.
