'Affect' by Steven Malies Over the year I have looking at intimacy and intimate spaces as a starting point. The flow of liquid paint and vitral as colour and a mimic of bodily fluids. The paint and medium is poured, dripped and allowed to meld, wrinkle and scab over. Amongst this unruliness some of the detail is cherished and added to evokiing the body. The small size of the works seems to be consistent and important to me. Its not the apprehension of making ‘big works' but investigating the qualities of this scale. They do invite reflection, close inspection and in a clear reference to the book page and diary entries.
