THE 20TH CENTURY COLLECTING PRACTICES OF THE VICTOR BATTE-LAY TRUST

About

Art for Colchester is an exhibition curated by the new Research Centre at The Minories in collaboration with the Victor Battle-Lay Trust. It tells the story of art collecting at The Minories from the late 1950's. The exhibition is an opportunity not only to examine the history of one particular collection, but also an invitation to think about collecting practices in general. The Title, ‘Art for Colchester' not only recalls the wording of Mrs Battle-Lay's original bequest; it also asks us to think about what art collecting meant in the mid to late 20th century, and what it still means for us today. Saturday 22nd September — Saturday 20th October, Monday — Saturday, 10am — 4pm
