About
Paul BattenboughPaintings and prints inspired by a trip to Vietnam
In 2011 I took a trip for one month to Vietnam.
In the course of that time I had a lot of diverse experiences, which included: romance and meeting and being embraced by an extended Vietnamese family. I played a guitar and sang to about 500 wedding guests, was invited to speak to pupils at a gifted school for children, Got a tattoo .... my first....and last. There was also the frenetic pace of the people dedicated to hard work and sacrifice, the drone of mopeds, the air-conditionrd taxis (ahhh!)The French influenced vegetarian cuisine, The French architecture. The characteristic palette of colours of the houses, the doors, awnings. I took some video and photographs as a record. I also kept a journal.
This is an exhibition in progress, I am still looking to explore further. I regard the work as a reponse, without any profound notions beyond simply expressing some of the joy and sadness that marked a journey that was something of adventure and something of a quest.
