Jo Longhurst: Other Spaces
Ffotogallery presents a new installation by Jo Longhurst, based on the ideals of the perfect performance and exploring the physical and emotional experiences of elite gymnasts in training and competition. Longhurst presents a study of physicality, liberation, pleasure, achievement, failure, exhaustion and despair through lens-based media and sculptural installations which reference Plato’s ‘Perfect Solids’ and Popova & Rodchenko’s revolutionary experiments with aesthetic forms for the construction of a new, utopian society.
On the opening night, Jo will present a performance intervention, specially choregraphed for the gallery space.
The exhibition will be accompanied by the launch of a new publication, Other Spaces, published jointly by Ffotogallery and Mostyn. Other Spaces has been made possible through the generous support of Arts Council England, Arts Council of Wales, John Kobal Foundation, Leverhulme Trust, National Media Museum, Pavilion and the European Centre for Photographic Research, University of Wales, Newport.
