Arrival and Departure: unveiling of new artwork for James Square, Plymouth University

Arrival and Departure comprises of two opposing forms redolent of nautical bollards, conceived by the artist Ian McChesney. Referring to the many historic voyages starting and ending in Plymouth they also mark the journeys taken by students, both physical and through time and endeavour. The forms are made from granite sourced from the De Lank Quarry on Bodmin Moor. Moving on is a site specific contemporary danceà‚ choreographed by Gemma Kempthorne. Inspired byà‚ theà‚ sculpture, Plymouth's maritime history and journeys, it will be performed by local dancers to anà‚ originalà‚ soundtrack during the unveiling.
