Ancient Future Exhibition with Tokio Aoyama

About

This August, in the Hoxton Gallery in London, come and be one of the first to intimately experience the striking, potently unique visual art of Tokio Aoyama. Showcasing a distinctive range of exclusive paintings that mix the myth, music, spirit and essence of nature into one palette of imaginative psychedelia. Tokio initially rose to prominence through his creatively inspired album cover artworks, but he soon went on to capture the imagination for his vibrantly colourful and surrealist paintings that focus on the essences of nature. Drawing inspiration from ethereal sources such as ancient mythology, the wonders of the cosmos, psychedelic experiences and states of mind, in this space you will find his amazing murals, CD artwork and portraits of iconic musicians past and present: these include original artworks commissioned for the 20th anniversary of seminal hip-hop act De La Soul, work celebrating the legendary Gil Scott Heron, and pieces for soul singer Georgia Anne Muldrow and rapper Dudley Perkins. Inspired by surrealists such as Picasso, Dali, Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera, Tokio also channels through his art the essences of peace, ascension and love embodied by musicians such as Bob Marley, Jimi Hendrix, Stevie Wonder and Sun Ra, as well as celebrating the free-spirited nature of artists including Miles Davis, Sly Stone and Basquiat. Tokio's art is his soul and the philosophy of his life. This exhibition sees Tokio drawing inspiration from musicians and ages past to paint visions of the future.
