The Masters programme at Goldsmiths is driven by collective debate, peer critique and rigorous experimentation in all media. This group of artists began their MFA as the effects of the financial crisis found new expression in student and union protests, many of them coming together to fight cuts to public funding and increased tuition fees for future generations. They themselves represent the last generation to benefit from low fees, studying through talent and not the ability to afford education at the highest level. Witnesses to the boom and bust of the contemporary art bubble, their work questions what it means to make art when the artistic strategies of recent decades no longer seem appropriate to a new political moment and the unclear future now facing us all. As the West falls from dominance and a new global order takes shape, this international group of artists meet these challenges with bold proposals for the future, taking new standpoints and aiming for uncharted territory in all media including painting, performance, sculpture, sound, photography, film and a good deal more.
