In 2011 the Suffolk Craft Society curated an exhibition in Ipswich Town Hall Galleries taking a broad look at the range of domestic pottery being made in Suffolk. To continue with their annual ceramic focus in Gallery 2, the Suffolk Craft Society is displaying an exhibition of ceramic sculpture by its members during July and August 2012.
In the exhibition you will find amongst others: joyful, colourful earthenware work by Paddy Peters, crisply engineered minimalist forms by Judith Battersby and fantastical figures by Karen Risby.
The makers selected for this exhibition demonstrate a broad mix of approaches to sculpture in clay, some very much influenced by the domestic uses of their material, using the vessel as the core structure in their sculptural work, others produce free form, expressive work or make amusing and entertaining pieces.
The Suffolk Craft Society hopes that this second ceramic summer exhibition will establish this annual ceramics event at Gallery 2, providing a detailed insight into current trends, styles and influences in contemporary ceramics specific to Suffolk.
The Suffolk Craft Society is having a busy summer! Their annual Summer Exhibition in Aldeburgh, this year titled ‘Bronze Silver Gold’, runs from 15th July to 27th August at the Peter Pears Gallery.
