Barbican Art Group Trust presents new work by Katie Aggett

About

Aggett's work is concerned with the mapping of the structure of movements and changes in London's urban spaces. These changes define new spaces. Taking architecturally dense urban, often obsolescent buildings as a source, she traces the movements of change that have occurred and how these create new dynamic structures and maps of space. The elements brought together in the work range from the physical changes of buildings over time to the movements and changing use of the space people create. This explores and reveals the unique characteristics under the skin of urban sites. The research is discovering a visual language for systems of space. It links the choreography of a space with a framework for defining the fleeting growth and movement found in cities. It explores a depiction of not just one event, but many simultaneously, changing intensities of events which define our experience of a space. The work looks to questions the way we view and interact with the changing history of London.
