OPIUM BRIDES: FILM SCREENING
Following the stories of five families on the run from traffickers, acclaimed reporter Najibullah Quraishi journeys deep into the Afghan countryside to investigate the deadly bargain local farmers are being forced to make. In Afghanistan, the world’s leading producer of opium, poppy farmers are being forced to sell their daughters to drug traffickers in order to pay their loans. How has the dreadful fate of these Opium Brides been sealed? From the producers of the multi-award-winning Dancing Boys of Afghanistan, this cutting-edge film exposes the abuse of young Afghan girls by drugs traffickers who are closely allied to the Taliban.
The screening will be followed by a panel discussion and Q&A involving the film makers and journalist Najibullah Quraishi.
