Body Casting Olympians

About

World-leading body cast sculptor Louise Giblin exhibits all five of her Body Casting Olympians sculptures, drawings and bronze plaques. Louise worked closely with leading British Olympians Kriss Akabusi MBE, double Olympic gold medallist Dame Kelly Holmes, Sally Gunnell OBE, world champion gymnast Beth Tweddle MBE and Paralympian swimmer Darren Leach to create a series of sculptures that represents the city of each athlete's most cherished medal win. The exhibitions at Saffron spans the duration of the London 2012 Olympics. Each sculpture reflects a medal win of greatest personal significance to the athlete on the front, along with the city in which it was won and all are united by the Union Flag. A highly stylised musculature is featured on the back of each sculpture. Beth Tweddle: Features her gold medal win at the World Championships in London. Her torso includes The River Thames, St Paul's Cathedral, The 02 Arena, the London Eye and London skyline. Kelly Holmes: Features her double Olympic gold win at Athens and depicts ancient Athens temples and sculptures, The Elgin Marbles, the goddess Nike and the gold medals themselves. Kriss Akabusi: His silver medal win at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics, with stadium architecture, medals, warrant officers badge and action photos. Sally Gunnell: Her gold medal win at the Barcelona Olympics and depicting Gaudi's La Sagrada Familia cathedral and inspirational words and phrases Darren Leach — His silver medal win at Sidney, including Sydney Harbour Bridge and the Sydney Opera House. The exhibition will also showcase: ”¢ Giblin's original, multi-layered drawings based on the creation of the Olympian sculptures. ”¢ Framed, limited edition bronze placques depicting chosen elements of each sculpture. ”¢ Photographs of the models and sculptures covering various stages of the creative process.
