LOVER - Jacqueline K Crofton & Fian Andrews
JIQ JAQ Contemporary Art is pleased to present LOVER an exhibition reflecting on the nature of femininity featuring work by Jacqueline K Crofton and Fian Andrews.
LOVER displays work of two artists exploring the female figure, body language and the senses in their practice. Both artists engage with issues related to the essence of intimacy and gender stereotypes.
Jacqueline K Crofton is a long-established versatile painter who has shown her work worldwide. The female figure is a reoccurring visual source in her practice. LOVER features a selection of works taken from different series engaging with the nature of femininity in a variety of approaches. Paintings such as "Kneeling on the Floor" and "Standing" reflects on the dominant role of male artists in contrast with the passive role of women throughout history. These pieces display a reversal of roles where the female artist is now the one to observe and define herself as well as the world.
Fian Andrews ceramic vessels were created in Jingdezhen, China, known as "The Porcelain Capital", a place he visits regularly in search of materials and inspiration. The vessels shown in LOVER explore "the intimate and subliminal association between the body and the vessel [...] and celebrates the intimacy and sexual energy between lovers".
