For his first solo show at WORKS|PROJECTS, Magnus Quaife will present a significant new series of paintings made over more than 3 years, entitled 1968 and Other Myths. The series considers the power of the image in relation to events or moments that have helped shape our cultural myths. The series marries images of student protests, rock concerts, art performances and political rallies with the seemingly insignificant and forgotten to create a new kind of history painting which investigates the separation of the images from their meaning. The preview evening also sees the launch of new exhibitions at our neighbours Picture This (Jimmy Robert) and Spike Island (Spike Island Open) and also at Arnolfini (Superpower: Africa in Science Fiction) as part of the first Harbourside Arts Night. The galleries will host a joint party at Spike Island from 9pm till late.
