Jonathan Cooper Park Walk Gallery is pleased to announce Greener Fields, a new exhibition of animal and landscape paintings by Michael J Austin. Working on a smaller scale than in recent years, this collection is a thoughtful pause from his larger work and the result of numerous studies from the fields and farms around the artist's studio in Devon. Austin's intimate paintings and oil studies offer a window through to the countryside and the very individual characters of the animals that are found there. Austin has developed a highly dramatic and expressive form of figurative painting, using a limited palette of only four colours (magenta, ultra marine, yellow and white) that allows him to paint quickly and with a fluid 'wet in wet' technique. His bold contrasting of vivid and naturalistic hues brings a sense of grandeur and theatre to even the simplest of everyday subjects.
