Tess Greig - Contemporary Portraiture

About

Anise Gallery's opening show is a solo exhibition by rising South London artist Tess Greig. Greig experiments with varied representations of contemporary portraiture and the exploration of the female body. She uses a mix of mediums including graphite, acrylic and Indian ink to help exaggerate her distinctive style on a larger scale. Her work has a strong reference to magazine, fashion and pop culture in her quest to represent the 'epitome' of female beauty. She says of her work; 'My work portrays mainly the female facerepresenting the innocent and beautiful vulnerability of her, but also power within a woman living today in this contemporary urban environment. I consistently draw fashion figures and popular culture icons from magazines and books. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, I will see beauty then feel the urge to want to record it on paper to then produce a painting. Included in the exhibition are Greig's portrayals of cultural icons Marilyn Monroe, Kate Moss and Sinead O'Conner.
