Anne Bevan & Andrea Roe

This two person exhibition presents new work by Edinburgh based artists Anne Bevan and Andrea Roe and will be their first show at the Royal British Society of Sculptors. The two artists work across areas of human and animal behaviour, natural history and the environment. Their work evolves through processes of making and exploring often associated with the scientists they work alongside.

Anne Bevan’s work has often been concerned with water, the sea, and the idea of ‘making the invisible visible’. This has involved cross-disciplinary work with science, industry and other creative practitioners. The artist’s current project brings together visual art, marine science and creative writing to explore the histories, technological developments and constant change associated with the marine environment: aspects that are often invisible and unseen.

In her work Andrea Roe examines the nature of human and animal biology, behaviour, communication and interaction within specific ecological contexts. Through the media of photography, film, and installed objects, Roe translates scientific research on the physiology of animal behaviour into installations that viewers experience physically as unfamiliar, visceral sensory encounters. She makes research discoveries accessible and exciting to those outside the scientific world.

‘Things Unspoken’ is curated by Jane Warrilow a freelance curator based in Scotland.

Project supported by Edinburgh College of Art/University of Edinburgh, Visual Arts Awards: Edinburgh, Creative Scotland, Cape Farewell, Hope Scott Trust.
