About

The Mechanical Hand: Artists' Projects at Paupers Press For one night only: a selection of print proofs showing the process of printmaking to coincide with the launch of The Mechanical Hand, edited by Michael Taylor The Mechanical Hand, published by Black Dog Publishing, surveys the breadth and diversity of artists' involvement with print through the work of Paupers Press, one of the UK's most prominent collaborative print studios. Illustrating the creative potential of print in the hands of diverse artists working today through unique, hand-coloured and one-off variations from the Press' archive, The Mechanical Hand explores the artist's print as a means of visualising original thought. The book features contributions from Cornelia Parker, Glenn Brown, Paula Rego, Christopher Le Brun, Catherine Yass and Grayson Perry to accompany images of their work, and essays by Martin Herbert on recent projects by Jake and Dinos Chapman and Stephen Chambers. To accompany the launch, a selection of proofs showing the process of printmaking by the artists featured in the book will be on display in the gallery for one night only. Copies of the book will be available at PAPERWORK Bookshop for £20 (RRP £29.95) and the editor and selected artists involved will be available to sign copies on the night. Refreshments will be provided. Thursday 22 March 2012, 6-8pm, Free RSVP to press@workgallery.co.uk or 0207 713 5097
