About

‘In This Together' in association with Arbeit gallery is the second joint exhibition of ‘The Muse at 269' 2011 Artists in Residence; Charli Clark and Caroline Jane Harris. A year on from their initial showcase these emerging artists have rejoined forces to explore their common ideas and artistic motives roused by the natural world. Both artists are interested in hand crafted detailed work and value the process as much as the final result. The exhibition title is inspired by the relationships between humans and the planet, the parallels and need of co-existence for our survival. Charli and Caroline explore themes of respect and awareness for the beauty of nature, whilst commemorating and immortalising the ever-changing environment. As artists, women and a bigger society, we are In This Together. '… we populate the last inhabitable corners of the Earth. With our great numbers, equipped with modern technical means, we are in the process of destroying our environment, thus our basis for existence... Those who have not experienced nature in all its beauty, and therefore have not developed feelings of respect for it, will be more likely to pursue their own short-sighted interest according to the principle of 'after us the deluge' without regard for nature or grandchildren. This can be counteracted by information and explanation, on the one hand, and by creating an aesthetically informed consciousness of the beauties of organic nature, on the other' Ernst Haeckel — The Artist in the Scientist, by Irenaus Eibl-Eibedfeldt Charli and Caroline are creating a joint piece and will be holding a silent auction throughout the duration of the exhibition to support the charity Trees for Cities. So Far Trees for Cities have planted over 225,000 trees and are aiming to plant a further 20,000 in 2012. Both Charli and Caroline grew up in cities and feel immensely grateful to the people working hard to increase the quality of their habitat. Arbeit gallery has elected these artists to begin a programme of events in March celebrating women's month.
