Kate Evans Kate combines a gritty drawing style with blocks of flat colour to produce images that reflect the richness of their subject matter. She graduated from Falmouth College of Art in 2006 and has been working as a freelance illustrator and fine artist ever since. She has exhibited with Ainscough Contemporary art gallery in Dartmouth, Devon as well Bristol Contemporary Art. Kate has worked for a number of high profile clients including Random House, Harper Collins, V&A magazine, Transport for London, The Guardian, The Independent and The Sunday Times. Her Illustrations have been published in the U.K. and abroad. Having recently moved into a studio at Jamaica Street Studios in Bristol, she has been developing a series of new fine art pieces, inspired by trips to America, Scandinavia and the Alps. These delicate new pieces are created using a variety of mixed media, watercolour, collage, pencil and crayon, concentrating on achieving beautiful mark making and line quality and building up layers with the collage and watercolour. She creates a calming sense of mood with her subtle use of colour and textures. Lisa Malyon Using a fine ink pen Lisa Malyon draws on pastel paper and a collage of torn paper from Bristol Publications Venue and The Spark or Chines paper 'money' (traditionally burnt during Chinese New Year celebrations); effects that add both texture and colour to create interest. The drawings are deliberately left to look incomplete as only certain portions are given a detailed finish thus pulling the viewer's gaze into the image. 'Built in Bristol' denotes a touring exhibition celebrating the weath of the city's architecture from the historic SS Great Britain, the clean modernist lines of the Harvey Nichols' residential tower to the ever-present Castlemead tower; buildings and structures that might be taken for granted are hereby given the prominence Lisa believes they deserve.
