Eddie Peake | DEM an exhibition of performances

About

DEM, the exhibition is a performance during gallery opening times, however there is an event repeated 3 times over this period: Thursday 8th March 7pm, Sunday 18th March, 7pm and Sunday, 25th March, 7pm. Visitors will be accepted on a first come basis at the opening on 8th March, however there will be an opportunity to book for the subsequent events. Further booking information will be posted on our website. Cell Project Space will present a solo project by Eddie Peake; in the gallery's third solo commission for the CYcLORAMA programme. The artist will transform Cell Project Space, stripping away the notion of performance as 'the happening', the familiar format within a gallery. In addition to scheduled weekly performances Peake will exhibit a continuous episode of event over the period of one month, defying the usual role performance might play in a gallery setting as the one-off temporal moment. Highlighting the slippage between performance event and gallery exhibition, the artist will present moving image and performance in tandem- the one completing the other. Peake's work could be described as the last gasp of joyfully narcissistic play, often putting himself at centre stage irrespective of whether he is visible in the work or not. A union of personal friendships, family members and auditionees become the players inside his expansive and multi-layered works. The effect develops an empathetic relationship between the work and its audience, and forms a play on the idea of artist as genius. Eddie Peake, graduated from Slade School of Art in 2006 and was a scholar at the British School at Rome, 2008- 2009. Selected solo exhibitions include, 'The Loving Clutches of My Hands', at Southard Reid, London, 'Double Negative' at Christopher Crescent, London, 2011, and 'History' at Galleria Lorcan O'Neill, Rome, 2010. He has been included in numerous group exhibitions and projects including, 'GLAZE', Bischoff Weiss, London, curated by George Henry Longly, with performances 'Contrapposto Pause' at V22 Young London, curated by Tara Cranswick, 2011 and 'Huh!' A performance work presented as part of 'Auto Italia Live episode 2: Cosmosis', 2011, at Auto Italia South East, London, live internet TV series with studio audience, simultaneously streamed live online.
