About

2.5D brings together the work of 5 emerging artists whose work explores the point at which opposing dimensions meet. Three-dimensional sculpture merges with two-dimensional photography and the boundary that separates reality from illusion blurs. Livia Garcia, Darren Harvey-Regan and Ella Bryant combine photographic and sculptural elements within their pieces, while Orestis Kalvaris and Joshua Bilton photograph the sculptural works they create. In all the pieces the fusing of image and object charges the work giving it an immediacy where the object is animated, and the image becomes physical. Through processes of collecting, assemblage, casting, and construction, everyday objects and regular body parts become unfamiliar and invested with emotions. The photographic document (testament to the visible world) is replaced with an interpretation of the world and our existence within it. 2.5D offers up a place where sculpture and photography merge, where the psychological becomes physical and invisible realities can be seen.
