John Goto's New World Circus

About

OVADA is delighted to present the photographs of international renowned John Goto, who lives and works in Oxford, and is based at Magdalen Road Studios. New World Circus is a refreshing body of new work, in which Goto plays with drama, irony and illusion. He employs modern technology to manipulate images and create spectacular events. This exhibition of photo-digital pictures takes the form of a circus performance, with one act following another, towards it's nightmarish climax. The New World Circus is a thinly veiled allegory of the invasion and occupation of Iraq, its title punning on the so-called New World Order. Goto began work on the series just before the invasion, when huge anti-war demonstrations were being held throughout the UK. The exhibition is accompanied by a specially commissioned soundscape by composer Michael Young.
