About

Centre for Recent Drawing presents the work of Claire Morgan, a Northern Irish artist living and working in London. Known for both her taxidermic installation sculpture and her drawings, she has been exhibited at MONA, MAD and Palais de Tokyo, and has several times been included in the Jerwood Drawing Prize. Morgan's drawing began as working sketches for sculptures, but over time developed in scale and complexity, and provided a less clinical, less calculated exploration of each scenario. The 'blood drawings', as Morgan calls them, have their pages marked by the trace of the animal concerned - outlines, spillage of bodily fluids and preservatives from the taxidermy process; to these are added layers of detail by a process of mark making that is in turn precisely accurate and clumsy. "The page contains the marks I need to make for planning, the very laborious, detailed ones I choose to make, the ones that are out of my control, the accidents I choose to elaborate on or keep. A lot is removed from the page before each drawing is complete, to ‘clean it up', however I retain what I feel might be significant." CM Please join us for the reception for this exhibition 31 August 6-8pm, or during opening hours 1 September - 1 October 2011; Centre for Recent Drawing is open 1 - 6pm Thursdays to Saturdays at 2 - 4 Highbury Station Road, Highbury Islington, London. C4RD is a Registered UK Charity 1123530, and would particularly like to acknowledge the support for this exhibition of ARTUPDATE.COM/. Claire Morgan is represented by GALERIE KARSTEN GREVE in France, Germany and Switzerland.
