Wilno – ‘City Without The Name’

The exhibition organised by the Joseph Pilsudski Institute in London in collaboration with the Kresy – Siberia Foundation, will be open for public viewing at the Gallery in POSK on the 6th August.
It portrays the vibrancy of life in Vilnius through pre-war photographs. The exhibits show the unique cultural and national diversity found within the region, the rare architecture, as well as the beautiful landscapes which not only set the scene for the everyday lives of the inhabitants of the area but also for the important historical developments which took place in pre-war Poland.
The Wilejka Valley, Kaziukowy Market and the streets of Antokol, captured through a camera lens over 100 years ago, provide us with exceptional images of places and times which have long disappeared.
An absolutely priceless section of the exhibition are the collections of documents, photographs and artefacts lent to us specifically for this event by individuals who have strong personal ties with Vilnius.
Opening:
6th August 2011, 4pm.
POSK Gallery, 238-246 King Street, London W6 0RF.
Exhibition:
6-19th August, 9am – 9pm.
