About

Vera Möller was Stour Valley Arts' artist in residence in King's Wood in 2009 as part of an Australian Exchange programme between Stour Valley Arts and Heide Museum of Modern Art in Melbourne. Möller's exhibition Fictional Hybrids is the result of this intensive period of research and her response to the botanically diverse King's Wood site. Vera Möller has trained in botanical science and theology and these studies inform her artistic practice. Möller's subjects are imaginary species of fungi — mutant protrusions on the forest floor that are close enough to reality to seem plausible. She delights in the surreal aspects of these forms. As Möller says, ‘The themes I pursue in my practice have been manifold and could be characterised as a sustained examination of the fluid boundaries between 'naturalia' and 'artificialia', biotech and nature, the real and the imagined. Particular subjects I continue to explore are notions of hybridity in biology and ideas relating to hypothetical or imaginary specimens.' This exhibition is in association with Stour Valley Arts.
