Get the Message Symposium and BBQ

Get the Message is a long-standing education project with schools and pupils
with special educational needs. Join us for this event featuring presentations from the artists and professionals involved between 5.00 – 7.00pm; followed by a special viewing of the exhibition of the latest work produced and a celebration of the project-to-date.

Get the Message symposium: What difference does collaboration make?
5.00 – 7.00pm

- Presentation of Get the Message
Camden Arts Centre and lead artists from the past 8 years will introduce the project, including images and examples of workshops and collaborative approaches.

- Get the Message research: Oliver Sumner
Arts Education Freelancer Oliver Sumner will present aspects of his research on Get the Message, highlighting key factors in combining innovative practice and accessibility.

- Panel discussion: Get the Message artists, chaired by Oliver Sumner
Addressing the symposium question 'what difference does collaboration make?' Lead artists from the past 8 years will discuss issues around practice, communication, reflection and institution in relation to their experience leading the project.

Exhibition and BBQ
7.00 – 8.30pm
There will a chance to meet the artists and continue discussions over a delicious barbecue from the café, and a chance to look around the exhibition of works made during Get the Message this academic year.

Artists
Since 2002, Get the Message has been led by artists Jo Addison, Judith Brocklehurst, Natasha Kidd, Georgie Manly and Raine Smith.

Researchers Biography
Oliver Sumner is a curator and educator, and founding member of the collective Delta Arts. He undertakes freelance contracts in research and evaluation, having previously worked in programming roles at a number of public galleries. He is currently leading Starting Out, the Visual Arts & Galleries Association’s professional development programme.
