A long time ago in Beeston, South Leeds little Mickie Gallagher discovered the joy's of drawing cowboy's and spacemen and superhero's...no girls allowed. After a turbulent career in insurance, oil and construction Mik ended up where he should have gone in the first place, Bradford Art College. Mik Artistik is a Leeds-based artist, musician, comedian, writer and performance poet, despite these other outlets, describes painting as his original passion. Mik Artistik's oil on canvases draw widely on childhood experiences, and often have a surreal, stream of conscious quality. They seem deliberately naive, and the artist's autobiographical approach has been likened to artists including Billy Childish and Vic Reeves.
