About

Rugby Art Gallery and Museum's nationally known Rugby Collection of 20th century and contemporary British art was established in 1946 and now holds more than 170 important paintings, drawings, prints and video pieces. The collection holds works by Eduardo Paolozzi, Stanley Spencer, Walter, Sickert, Barbara Hepworth, Bridget Riley and L.S. Lowry. The collection is not on permanent display but visitors can see a selection in our annual exhibition. This year, as well as showing highlights from the rugby collection, we are delighted to present for the first time our recent acquistion by film artist Lindsay Seers. The Trilogy, acquired in march 2009, is the result of work undertaken with the Contemporary Art Society on a new scheme that supports museums nationallyin acquiring moving image works for their collections. Her work uses a dark combination of performance, film and installation to interweave history, literature and philosophy. The exhibitiopn of the Rugby Collection will be divided into two seperate displays: 22nd March - 12th June and 15th June - 28th August.
