Ceramic birds made by children at Tudor School, Sudbury, led by Karen Risby
Suffolk school pupils are working with The Suffolk Craft Society and Eastfeast to create artwork inspired by their local area of outstanding natural beauty
Coordinated by Eastfeast, members of the Suffolk Craft Society are working in schools in Suffolk to share their skills in ceramics, glass, felt, print and willow. They have been working with children aged 5-12 years, involving Schools based in the Dedham Vale AONB and Stour Valley Project area, and the Suffolk Coast and Heaths AONB.
By working with professional Suffolk based artists, who themselves make artwork for exhibition and sale, the children were able to learn techniques that they may not otherwise come across during their school careers. The school pupils were encouraged to use art to reflect on their ideas and experiences of the natural environment local to their school. A collection of the resulting art work is to be shown to the public at exhibitions in professional galleries throughout the Summer of 2011.
This project has enjoyed a great deal of support from partners including the Dedham Vale AONB and Stour Valley Project, Creative Partnerships, Suffolk Coast and Heaths AONB and the Britten Pears Foundation.
