Ruth Maclennan: Anarcadia
About
Anarcadia is a video projection and accompanying photo-series shot among the desert expanses of Kazakhstan. Into this shifting, elemental landscape, Maclennan introduces two iconic characters: an archaeologist and a prospector; each of them methodically journeying across this apparently empty but symbolically charged terrain. Their parallel journeys are implicitly coloured by the iconography of the American West; the remote, uncharted vistas seem to offer new scope for these enduring myths to be re-enacted.Co-commissioned by Film and Video Umbrella and John Hansard Gallery, Southampton, in association with Ffotogallery and Stills, Edinburgh. Funded by Arts Council England, and with the generous support of the British Council. Additional support from the Henry Moore Foundation.
Please note that the exhibition takes place at our gallery space - Turner House, Plymouth Rd, Penarth, CF64 3DH. For any inquiries regarding our exhibition program, please contact Leela Clark on info@ffotogallery.org.
