The Second Attempt of Phane Terglo
About
Curated by Goldsmiths MFA Fine Art Students Stephane Blumer, Choterina Freer, Gloria Houng, Woo Jin Kim, Sally Kindberg, Gyuwon Lee, Jin Han Lee, Daniela Montenegro, Anna Stephens and Nina Wakeford. The Second Attempt of Phane Terglo is a curating project by ten artists studying in the MFA Fine Art program at Goldsmiths, University of London.
This exhibition leaves everyone in the dark. The curated artist Phane Terglo is nowhere to be found. Terglo's invisibility leads one to think that this 'second attempt' departs from an impossibility of dialogue. The implications of this gesture, as a premise of production, triggers a critical evaluation of the conventional acting of roles involved in the production and circulation of contemporary art.
Phane Terglo's initial act of rejection deprives the exhibition of any ordering principle: the artists become at once the protagonists and the interpreters of the show; and the textual aspects of the public presentation of artworks becomes a mere meta-commentary, disconnected from any aesthetic appreciation.
