About

For this, his first major UK exhibition James Pearson-Howes turns to his own surroundings and presents an insight into the contrasting cultures and lifestyles that exist on the Kingsland viaduct. A compacted mix that has occurred because a variety of very different communities have taken advantage of the relatively low housing prices that existed due poor public transport links. Documenting all aspects of these cultures that he believes will be lost under the weight of economic development, either pushed out by rising rents or simply demolished and redeveloped; from the nail salons, barbers and boutiques to the bars and clubs. Without hiding the grime and dangers, he shows us an alluring offbeat charm and diversity that will soon be lost to history.
