About

Now in its third year the FIRST@108 Public Art Award provides a rare opportunity for one sculptor to extend their practice into competing for public art commissions. Competition was fierce with over 225 applications from all over the globe indicating that this award, is providing a much sought after opportunity for sculptors who wish to work in the public realm. For this year's award, the theme ‘transition' was selected. Five sculptors have now been short listed: Jenske Dijkhuis, Susan Forsyth ARBS, Nicholas Horrigan, Juile Major and Kate McLeod. The five artists also represent a diversity of sculptural practice: Dijkhuis's enigmatic architectural follies, Forsyth's opulently surfaced geometric forms, Horrigan's bold landscape interventions, Major's alluringly aggressive organic forms and McLeod's powerfully visceral expressions of the figure. The winner will receive £10,000 to produce their finished piece, which will be exhibited in front of the RBS later in the year before moving to a second high-profile location.
