Film Noir

About

Following another classic noir, The Woman in the Window, Lang teamed up with most of the cast again, in another of his explorations into the darker side of humanity. Edward G. Robinson puts in an incredible performance as meek bank teller and part time painter Chris Cross, who one night happens upon a pimp (Dan Duryea) beating his girl, Kitty (Joan Bennett). Robinson steps in and unwittingly getting pulled into a long con. Kitty convinces Chris to set her up in an apartment where he can paint, and, having pretended to be a famous artist, he has to steal money to pay for it. Eventually he is sucked deep into a tangled web of deceit that he can only see one way out of, in this cold and thrilling noir. The screening follows the study day course An Exploration of Film Noir by Dr Andrew Spicer. Dir. Fritz Lang USA 1945 1h 43m
