About

Maryam Amiryani depicts an array of objects, from the everyday to the surreal. Her style remains strongly influenced by memories of her childhood in Iran as well as Iranian visual culture, which can been seen throughout her work; from the Persian colour palette of rich earthly hues, miniature—style size of the work and abraded surface texture of her paintings. Her subjects are inspired by the world that surrounds her; whether it is a headline news story demonstrated in works such as ‘For Alexander Macqueen' or the ‘World Cup,' or more familiar everyday objects she comes across. Often using objects as metaphors for our human condition and the unanswered questions that surround it, Amiryani creates what she describes as a ‘minimalist theatre.' These simple arrangements permit the viewer to focus on one captured moment while time around them seems to slow down.
