Cryptmas.... When was the last time you visited Santa Claus?
A FREE alternative Christmas experience by torchlight, for all ages, created inside an underground crypt. This subterranean, historical, atmospheric venue with alcoves, arched ceilings and ghosts of Christmas past is the fantastic setting for an alternative Christmas experience.
Once inside this unusual, subterranean labyrinth guests can explore the festive grotto. Illumini takes them on a journey of an alternative Christmas never before seen. Walls lit with bright, colourful projections and effects guide the way past tomb stones and illuminating artworks that will dazzle and amaze guests of all ages. Hidden deep inside Illumini's very own Father Crypt-mas an art installation based on a futuristic, robotic Santa. He is there to greet all his guests from young to old, with surprises for the children.
The event has been designed for everyone, no matter what age, to enjoy a free alternative Christmas art experience. Children can participate in free workshops during their visit and make their own festive gifts to take home with them.
Opening Night
A grand free opening night kicks off the event. The front of the church will be transformed into a frozen, dreamlike world of crystallising structures by artists SDNA. There is also the full crypt grotto experience with illuminating art works by individual artists as well as Illumini's Father Crypt-mas. During the course of the evening there will be performers all working with light including fire performances, illuminating juggling, dancers, singers, light shows and create-your-own light graffiti (watch the results projected onto the building itself). Carnival collective Kinetika will be showcasing their new, exciting illuminating puppets that will be walking around the event looking for new friends to meet. Enjoy a glass of mulled wine or warm yourself with hot soup. There'll be free glow sticks and surprises for children. Plenty of entertainment for all ages makes this a fantastic free evening out.
