LIFELINES ' is our life determined by destiny? Are there detectable lines in our hands, that tell us whether we possess artistic talent, whether we will lead fulfilled lives or rather wander about, eternally searching? Since the beginning of time, man has been happy to venture a glance into the future. Securing the good and driving off the bad is a basic tenet of all religions - and not infrequently through the expressive media of art. In the group exhibition „lifelines“, seven positions are represented, each with its own artistic glance at the course of life. They make reference to social, historical, mythological and religious aspects and make use of the most universally different symbolic and stylistic elements.

In her photo-realistic portraits of women and landscapes Ute C. Latzke refers to the signifying and symbolic values of christian iconography as well as to modern fetish images. Her protagonists play the isolated roles of heroes, alone on the search for a direction which is never revealed in the „film“ of life. INK shows the series „The Bread of Life“ with special footnotes and a particular, new-masterly interpretation of the caricature. The young croatian artist Miron Milic illuminates the unconscious and sexual mainsprings of life in a surreal pictorial language. With black humor, he comments on mythology and history, out of which superstitions and ostracism once sprung. In comparison, Joanne Grüne-Yanoff's subtle objects appear poetically narrative. Anatomic forms like the heart and the spine are clothed with ribbons and words, in which natural materials such as wool, egg shells, moss, beeswax, wings, salt or rust mix with one another as very real traces of life. Nathalie Bissig and Kara Yong Kara Choko maintain a friendship over a very long distance. Their drawings reflect the culture and mythology of the east and west in a mixture of both aesthetics and substance. Humans, flora and fauna encounter each other in surreal images ' in the cosmos of dreams and fantasies. Dietmar Schmale's conceptually and ambiguously invested multpiles aim at the double moral standards of society. In 2006, Schmale had his art line „manifestly“ tattooed in his hand.
