Siobhan Davies in conversation with Sam Collins, a commissioned artist for her new work ROTOR

About

This autumn Siobhan Davies Dance presents ROTOR, an ensemble of performances, sound installations and artworks which fills Siobhan Davies Studios. With this new project, Siobhan Davies further extends her connections with other disciplines and commissions nine artists to make, in their own artform, work based on ideas generated by a new dance, The Score, which has been filmed from above. Sam Collins draws on the dancers changing spatial relationships to create a mechanism for the fracturing of a single event into multiple potentialities. Collins presents a multi-screen video installation in which the simplest of narratives is given endless manifestations through the reconstruction and correlation of its parts. Sam Collins is an artist and designer based in London.à‚ As production designer he has collaborated with Siobhan Davies on Bird Song, In Plain Clothes and Two Quartets. Recent design projects include Il Tempo del Postino, an Opera of Contemporary Art, Drifting and Tilting — the songs of Scott Walker, at the Barbican and Longplayer Live at the Roundhouse. Siobhan Davies advocates for the wider recognition of dance as a significant and extraordinary art form. She created her first piece Relay in 1972 and has made over 40 works for Siobhan Davies Dance, and other companies including Artangel, The Royal Ballet and Rambert. Her work has won numerous awards including an Oliver and South Bank Show Award and much of it has been filmed for television. ROTOR takes place from 3-14 November.
