A joint exhibition of sculptural metalwork by Robert Marsden and black and white photography by Philip Sayer.
About
Robert Marsden is an artist and craftsman most recognised for his sharply elegant sculptures in the medium of metal. In this exhibition Marsden will present a new series of aluminium and patinated brass pieces that explore the theme of contradictions through the language of his characteristically architectonic forms.
Marsden's sculptures will be shown alongside a series of photographs by Philip Sayer of seven skyscrapers built by Stalin in late 1940s Moscow. These black and white prints, taken in 2002, convey not only the brooding atmosphere of the subject matter, but also the careful eye and hand of the maker, as each is crafted using traditional photographic processes. Sayer, a founding member of Blueprint magazine, has been as freelance photographer since 1969 and has worked extensively across a broad range of subject matter for major UK and international clients. This series was originally commissioned by Domus magazine.
