The work to be shown in this exhibition takes the form of boxes, framed pieces and canvases that are grouped in series to be viewed together as a show. Consisting of two series and three individual pieces (canvases), the work is the result of an exploration and celebration of cultural hybridisation in Britain. The first series, Tokens for the Journey" emerge from a synthesis of the artist's rich Asian/African Caribbean/British heritage. Articulated in a collection of sixteen pieces made from natural and utilitarian materials the construction of each piece deliberately exploits the differences between materials to make meaningful connections between past and present.
