MACHIA GENETHLIOU

About

Ladies and Gentlemen, the 10 Gales Gallery and its curator, Antria Pelekanou are proud to present the larger than life solo show of Machia Genethliou, beginning on the 29th of November and running for 168 hours of pure raw, orgasmic ecstasy, finishing triumphantly on the 6th of December, exhausted but satisfied like nothing the gallery has ever felt before. Antria Pelekanou tells us that the exhibition is the most provocative yet, out there to be heard and to push the boundaries in all of us to what we think about modern day love, sex and relationship, exemplified in our condom suited invitations. Our featured artist, Machia Genethliou tells us her work investigates human relationships outside of the movies, delving into the emotional strengths we discover along the way and the psychology that is inherent to it. I love the contradiction between emotions, she says, depressed and cheerful, life and death, love and hurt. I believe there is no way in which the binary opposites can be separated and to experience one, you invite the other and must learn to deal with it, and that she says, is the beauty of it all. Mahia tells us in her work that it is this pain with purpose she is exploring. She tells us that we are sexual beings to the core and that the exhibition deals with all of the psychoanalysis that goes with this, exploring the ideas of visual remembrance through the progression of layering of paint over paint , representing each time we love and each time in turn, we hurt, which of course gives birth to new colours and new emotions each time. Sometimes ironic and sometimes metaphorical, my work has elements of black humour while also dealing with deeper personal issues can be received and understood by anyone with a beating heart. In a sense, she summarizes, my work is becoming a mental space for my thoughts and emotions. I am fascinated by the concept of capturing something language and words cannot, making thought physical through paint, that is my goal, that is my dream. My current work centers on love when it is full of passion and exuberance, joy and amazement, lovesick and infatuation while all of the time running an undertone of the pain and hurt that is inevitable and seeing of course, the beauty in all of it. We will celebrate Aphrodite, goddess of love and sexuality as well as Monos, the God of pain, on the 29th of November at 18:00 so come and be part of it all. Mood-setters will be all around so do join us for caviar and creation, champagne and celebration, oysters and original sin, candy and cupid, dark chocolate and dark lust-filled thoughts, truffles and temptation, strawberries and seduction as we delve deep into the topic of love and relationships, and the inevitable torrent of hurt, pain and emotion that arises because of them.
