Gasworks Yaoi, solo exhibition by Francesc Ruiz

Residency artist Francesc Ruiz (Spain) explores urban subcultures to build narratives that weave his personal experiences into the social dynamics around him. During his residency Ruiz will develop a project titled Gasworks Yaoi. He plans to create a fictional comic that takes as a starting point the gay scene in the Vauxhall area where Gasworks is situated. Yaoi is a comic genre often translated to boy's love", referring to a type of homoerotic comic produced and consumed by women. Gasworks Yaoi will push the genre by including heterogeneous narratives such as the graphic language of sexual education books as well as billboards and other local advertising in order to create a subjective map of the area and to reveal its collective unconscious. Ruiz's residency and subsequent exhibition are supported by Seacex and the Fundación Marcelino Botà ­n.
