Run to the Hills present ‘disturb'

About

Carnal totems to greed, sexual decadence, impermanence and the perils of fashion unsettle the senses as nine artists present their take on modern life with the show ‘disturb', opening today. The group form the successful collective ‘Run to the Hills', and will be exhibiting a fresh body of work at the first floor gallery, Candid Arts Trust (behind Angel tube), from the 4 — 9 November 2010. The Run to the Hills artists cover the mediums of sculpture, installation, print making and painting for a combined assault on the senses. Mark Allnutt drafts painstaking cityscapes that celebrate the metropolis as a heaving, breathing organism, while Guy Burch invites the audience to slide, John Malkovich style, inside his head and explore themes of sexual decadence and personal identity. Nicholas Cheeseman zooms in to celebrate the mundane and its inherent beauty with his skilful depictions in pen and ink, while Daniel Craig aims to paint the world in his image - bold, brutal and beautiful shadows of himself, without preliminary sketches, or some grand plan or narrative to tie them down. Nick Davis's bronzes are carnal totems to greed, excess and desire, cast according to a process as old as the devil himself. Deborah Eastlake dives into the fickle world of fashion with her brooding drawings while Emma Gomm's glitter portraits of mannequins offer the dark allure of the unattainable. Jonathan Hoskins explores ritual, myth and science to make objects probing human efforts to render experience intelligible and the world inhabitable. And Matt Marchant questions the metaphysical necessity of ethical systems that can be a breeding ground for restraint, control and discrimination. There will be a private view on 4 November from 6-9pm with the exhibition running until 9 November from 12-6pm. Click here for a preview of the artists work: http://runtothehillsart.blogspot.com/ 1.
