First solo show in London of Algerian artist Adel Abdessemed's work

One of London’s most exciting galleries, Parasol Unit foundation for contemporary art, presents the first solo exhibition of the Algerian artist Adel Abdessemed’s work in London. The exhibition centres around two of his major works; on the ground floor Habibi, 2003, a 17 metre human skeleton made of fibreglass hangs horizontally from its spine in front of an aeroplane propeller, which provides the vital propulsion for the piece. On the first floor, Silent Warrior is an installation of numerous colourful masks made from found and discarded empty tin cans from Africa, which once contained either food or toxic material. The other pieces Abdessemed created for the exhibition also reflect his ongoing exploration into ideas surrounding violence, truth and beauty.
