About

FOTONOW presents Cameras in the Community, featuring: Daniel Meadows, Camper Obscura, Laundrette Residencies and South West Graduate Photography Prize. FOTONOW is a Plymouth based photographic arts organisation with a socially-driven agenda. The exhibition at Plymouth Arts Centre offers four threads, all attached to the notion of community and contemporary photographic practice. Camper Obscura is a fantastic mobile camera obscura sited in a camper van, travelling to residents around Plymouth, and supported by Devonport Regeneration Community Partnership. This is inspired by a project undertaken by artist Daniel Meadows in the 1970s, where he toured the UK in a double decker bus making portraits of the people he met. This nationally significant work will be presented in the exhibition. The exhibition also includes documentation of a project commissioned by FOTONOW in several laundrettes across Plymouth. Finally, FOTONOW will bring the six graduate artists who exhibited in London as part of the South West Graduate Photography Prize back to the city. For more information visit www.fotonow.org.
