About

Naked is the third and final part of the 2010 series and brings together six sculptors who explore concepts of exposure, vulnerability together with rawness of materials to provoke a sensory response. Jane Benson examines themes of personal and political identiy to probe the legacies of Conceptualism and Surrealism. Stephen Duncan's uses casts from the surfaces of large acanthus leaves to suggest an intermediary of ‘skin' on his figurative sculptures. Laurence Edwards is inspired by the anatomical structure of man and beast and the rich, textured landscape around him. Victoria Ferrand-Scott's sculptures are abstract, organic and visceral, harnessing natural forces of gravity to capture the history and the potential of form. Alexandra Harley's sculptures convey movement, animation, imbalance and unease by revealing internal structures. Luke Hart's work explores synthetic human skin, flesh and bone, and prosthetic objects as a means of examining preconceptions about evolution and the natural world.
