... a thousand ships is an exhibition of large scale portrait drawings and paintings on canvas by artists who attend Project Ability's Connect programme. Over a period of several months, thirty artists have worked on this project, creating portraits of themselves, their fellow artists, people known and people unknown.

For some of the artists involved in the project it is the first time they have made a painting of this scale, duration and intensity.

Project Ability's Connect programme is designed to provide a safe, creative environment for people with mental health issues. Taking part gives people the opportunity to work in a professional arts space, develop their artistic ability and experience a range of benefits that can positively affect their wellbeing.

Connect takes place in our brand new art centre at Trongate 103 where participants can choose to join in with group workshops or work on self-directed projects.

Creative activity can challenge us to learn new things, improve our motivation and promote positive thinking.

The artists whose work is in the exhibition are: Hector Aitken, Debbie Anderson, Norrie Berrie, Lyndsey Black, Margaret Booth, David Bradley, Janette Brown, Susan Christie, Lea Cummings, Grant Davidson, Eileen Davie, Craig Drysdale, Stephen Flannigan, Marlies Hyman, Jatinder Kang, Stuart Low, Wallace MacBain, Morag MacGilchrist, Esme MacLeod, Tommy McNeill, Ruth Mutch, Kristen Neilson, Gordon Ramsey, William Smith, Kirsty V Stewart, Peter Stewart, Martin Sumner, Maureen Taylor, Catriona Thompson.
