Thinking Hand Scratching Head

About

Justin Carter is best known for his functional, site responsive sculptures Mobile Retreat (2000) a flat-packed artists studio and Sustainable Indulgence (2004) a solar Powered Ice Cream Stall. Carter enters into a dialogue with people and place to inform his projects. Thinking Hand Scratching Head, the current exhibition marks a return to a studio-based enquiry that re- considers objects in relation to their formal design, function and failure. The work reflects an intuitive approach to making that is characterised by dark humour and hopefulness. ‘Thinking Hand Scratching Head' playfully explores objects and materials in terms of their poetic potential. Artist's talk, 30 July, 5.30pm Shelter workshop, 6 August
